What is called MSME industry- MSME udyog

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME Udyog) is a very important link in terms of employment and economy in our country. The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Bill- 2005 (which was introduced in Parliament on 12th May, 2005) became an MSME-2006 Act after getting assent by the President. This act has been named as the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006.

After the enactment of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, there was a drastic change in its nature. A massive change was made in this again in 2018 by the Narendra Modi government. Earlier, where “Investment in Plant and Machinery” was applied in the definition of MSME industry, after the change in 2018, “Turn over per annum” has been added in place of Investment in Plant and Machinery in the definition.

Micro Industries: The manufacturing industries whose annual turnover is less than 5 crores per annum, all those micro industries / cottage industries – come under micro business.

Small Scale Industries: The manufacturing industry in which the annual turnover is between 5 crores to 75 crores is called small scale industry- small business.

Medium Industries- The business in which annual turnover is between 75 crores to 250 crores is called medium industry- medium size business.

Definition of MSME Industry in Service Sector

Micro Industries – The service business whose annual turnover is less than 5 crores annually, all those micro industries / cottage industries – come under micro business.

Micro Industries – The service industry in which the annual turnover is between 5 crores to 75 crores is called small business – small business.

Medium Industries- The business in which annual turnover is between 75 crores to 250 crores is called medium industry- medium size business.

Contribution of Micro, Small and Medium – MSME Industry in India’s Economy

  • At present, about 36.1 million units are functioning in the micro, small and medium scale sector.
  • Talking about employment by micro, small and medium industries, about 120 million people are employed in that sector.
  • The MSME sector contributes to 45% of India’s total exports.
  • It contributes 11% to India’s GDP. The service sector contributes 25% to the GDP.
  • The annual growth tax of this sector is 10 percent.
  • Due to employment in the MSME sector, the migration of a large number of youth from rural areas has been stopped.

To promote this sector, the Udyog Aadhar scheme is being run by the government. The Udyog Aadhaar scheme is being run by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium.
