Using Endoscopy for effective diagnosis and treatment

Endoscopy is a non-surgical procedure that is used to examine the internal parts of the gastrointestinal tract. Various endoscopy medical device companies provide superior quality endoscopy products such as polypectomy snares, hemostatic clips, and other tissue retrieval endoscopic tools.

Endoscopy devices are required for the diagnosis and treatment of several diseases. With the advancement in technology of endoscopic devices, the market has seen a flourishing growth and with more people preferring minimal invasive surgeries, the demand for endoscopy tools and devices is on the rise. Surgeons and doctors across the globe rely on endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat major infections and diseases.

What is Endoscopy?

Endoscopy is a medical procedure that involves viewing the internal organs of the body and capture images which are then used for accurate diagnosis and further treatment of various diseases. The endoscopic device is plunged inside the body which is cumbersome and discomforting for the patient as the device scans the entire gastrointestinal tract and may take a long time. The doctor uses an endoscope, a flexible tube with an attached light and camera to view the internal organs of your body on a color TV monitor. During Upper endoscopy, the endoscope is inserted through the mouth and goes inside the esophagus, and is used to view the stomach and the upper part of the small intestine.

Similarly, during colonoscopy, the endoscope is passed into the large intestine through the rectum and is used to examine the intestine.

Endoscopic devices are also used during ERCP( Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) to view organs like the pancreas and gall bladder etc. This procedure is useful in performing biopsies and stent replacement.

When is Endoscopy required?

Doctors recommend endoscopy when the patient is suffering from any of the following symptoms:

  • Bleeding in the digestive tract
  • Ulcers and gastritis
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Changes in bowel habits
  • Unwanted growth in the colon, etc.

Endoscopy is not just used for the diagnosis of a disease but can also be used to treat it. For example, if the patient is suffering from internal bleeding in the stomach, some devices are passed through the endoscope that can stop the bleeding. Any growth in the colon can be effectively removed with the help of endoscopic devices so that it does not develop into colon cancer.

Endoscopic procedures are safe when performed by a qualified gastroenterologist.

Endoscopic Devices

Doctors need a wide variety of endoscopic devices to perform successful procedures such as laparoscopy, colonoscopy, etc. These devices are used by doctors and technicians to take tissue samples, suture management, and many other procedures. Each endoscopic device has a specific function and is designed as per the specifications of a particular type of endoscopy. Needless to say, the success of the medical procedure depends on the precision of the instruments used and directly affects the betterment of the patient.

Proper care of endoscopy Medical devices–

All endoscopic instruments should be scrupulously cleaned to remove any organic matter after every use and lubricated after cleaning. Proper maintenance increases their effectiveness as well as life span.
