National Provider Identifier (NPI) Registry

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) requires that you obtain an NPI if you submit claims electronically or if you check claim status or access benefit and eligibility information from a patient online. If you do not, you will not be able to access patient information in electronic format from Delta Dental or other healthcare partners.

Getting your NPI is easy, and when you do, it is valid for life. To obtain your NPI, simply log into the National Provider and Plans Enumeration System (in English only) and follow the instructions to complete the application.

When you receive your NPI, register it with Delta Dental. To do this, send a copy of the confirmation that contains the NPI that you receive from the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES). Send it to your local Delta Dental office in one of the following ways:

California:
  • Postal Mail: Delta Dental, Attn: DNAC / D12, PO Box 997330, Sacramento, CA 95899-7330
  • Fax: 916-852-8995
  • E-mail: [email protected]
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, Texas, and Utah:
  • Postal Mail: Delta Dental, Attn: DNAC, PO Box 1809, Alpharetta, GA30023
  • Fax: 770-641-5395
  • E-mail: [email protected]
Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia:
  • Postal Mail: Delta Dental, Attn: DNAC, 1 Delta Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055
  • Fax: 717-774-1770
  • E-mail: [email protected]

Once you have registered your NPI with Delta Dental, you will have access to electronic claim status, Delta Dental eligibility and benefits, and other information online. Even if you have not started submitting claims electronically, you should begin using your NPI when submitting inquiries electronically about claim status and benefits and eligibility.
